Manchester United start the season with games against two promoted teams. The first was leading, with a 2-0 loss to Hull City. On Sunday, Ipswich, with Sindre Walle Egeli on the bench, was supposed to push one of the world’s biggest clubs further into the mud. Bruno Fernandes was already tired of losing, the United supporters got a very entertaining first home game of the 2026/27 season.

5-2 win with three by captain Bruno Fernandes! Michael Carrick has been in this game for so long, that he needed to give English journalists some adult education after the game. The same ones who had brought out “Crisis” and “Disaster” for Manchester United after one game.

“The most gratifying thing for me was that we had talked about this during the week. About dealing with setbacks,” Carrick began in his post-match press conference.

And there was also a setback at Old Trafford with Ipswich scoring after half an hour played.

“If you want to be a good and successful team, you have to deal with setbacks. All teams lose games and you have to be able to deal with that in the right way. It can be momentum in a game, a goal against, a loss or something else. You have to be able to respond to that. We talked about it before the game, about moving on from last week. Then we had a little bit of a setback today as well when we fell behind. But the stubbornness, confidence and unity the players showed then was very pleasing for me,” Carrick concluded.
