Manchester United could be on the verge of securing a surprise signing in the summer. According to Spanish Mundo Deportivo , an “aging” world star is on his way to the club.

Will intensify the attack – without spending millions

Manager Michael Carrick seems to want to make small but precise adjustments to the attacking line – even though this is one of the few squads that is already working well. So far, the focus has been on midfield, as well as a left-back and a backup goalkeeper. But now the striker position can get a boost as a pure bonus.

With Joshua Zirkzee on his way out, Benjamin Sesko is left as the only natural striker. Other players can step in, but reinforcements are urgently needed.

“The world’s best in his role”

Manchester United want to bring Robert Lewandowski to Old Trafford. The 37-year-old will leave Barcelona when his contract expires in a few days, and thus become a free agent.

His clinical finishes and vast experience appeal to United greatly. But there’s a catch: his salary demands are said to be higher than what Manchester United are willing to meet right now – which has cooled the talks.

Lewandowski will not be left without a club offer, however. He is said to have both Chicago Fire and several Saudi Arabian clubs running after him, with huge financial packages on the table.

Could be the perfect mentor for Sesko

If United get a deal, it’s not just about short-term strength. Lewandowski, who many still call “the world’s best central striker”, could be an invaluable mentor to Sesko – one of Europe’s most promising strikers.

“His presence can help us enormously, both on and off the pitch,” said United manager Michael Carrick.

By learning from one of the greatest of all time, Sesko can take the step towards becoming a future world striker. And perhaps it is precisely that legacy that United are chasing as much as the goals.
