It wasn’t a question of some strategic moves by manager Michael Carrick, but more of captain Bruno Fernandes, who so many times before took authority and brought everyone to life well into the first half. It’s easy to wonder where would Manchester United have been in the last six years without Fernandes? Thankfully, that’s not a question they need to ask or answer, because they have him.

That said, despite a bunch of goals, they lack a power forward, so it’s no wonder they’ve put Norwegian striker Alexander Sørloth on their roster.

Bruno Fernandes scored a hat-trick as Manchester United turned around to a comfortable victory over Ipswich Town.

The visitors, who beat Sunderland in their Premier League return last weekend, took the lead when Leif Davis hammered in a beautiful half-volley after fantastic wing play by Abdul Fatawu.

But the overall scenario of the game turned completely around when Marcelino Nunez slipped and allowed United to counter from a corner – Matheus Cunha served Fernandes, who surely scored the equaliser.

Then United took the lead when Harry Maguire’s shot was steered into the net via Jacob Greaves – which unfortunately for Ipswich was booked as an own goal. The ball hit Maguire’s arm in the build-up, but the goal was disallowed as it was not he himself who scored.

Three minutes later, Ipswich stopper Greaves was involved again – this time when he felled Cunha for a penalty. Fernandes took charge and put the ball safely into the goal.

Then came the United captain’s third. He was on the spot and put in the rebound after both Kobbie Mainoo and Bryan Mbeumo had shots blocked.

Fernandes Mbeumo then played free with a perfect ball over the defence – and Mbeumo’s shot hit the crossbar before spinning over the line to make it 5-1 for the home side.

Ipswich got a consolation goal towards the end when Julio Enciso put the ball back to substitute Chuba Akpom, who scored – but by then the game was long over.
