AC Milan was supposed to be the league challenger. Instead, they struggle uphill – both on the pitch and behind the scenes. New reports from Italy paint a picture of internal division, and at the center are two of the club’s biggest personalities: coach Massimiliano Allegri and advisor to the owners Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Now, Allegri finally breaks his silence about what is said to have been an infected meeting between them.

The journey so far: From triumphs to conflict
For Allegri, the road back to Milan has been anything but easy. He took over a team with high expectations, but also fragile structures. In the past, he has led Juventus to series after series – but in Milan he has struggled to restore order and authority.
For Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the role has changed. From the undisputed king of the pitch to advisor and the club’s “strong man” behind the scenes. He is used to winning, to being heard – and to putting himself in respect. The transition from star to power player behind the scenes has not been frictionless.
And now the two met.
What goes wrong in Milan
According to Italian media, a heated argument broke out between Allegri and Ibrahimovic during an internal meeting – a confrontation that is described as inflamed and personal. The atmosphere in the Milan camp has long been tense, and the disagreements are probably about tactics, team building and the way forward.
But during a press conference this week before Sunday’s meeting at the Stadio Comunale Luigi Ferraris against Genoa, Allegri chose to face the storm – with a disarming calm.
“It’s natural,” he said.
“There is disappointment with the results, and we are the first to feel it. But…
He let the sentence hang for a while before continuing:
“I’m used to always having professional relationships. I work professionally with all directors and owners.
“Much worse discussions than this one”
Allegri does not deny that it has been intense. He admits that different ideas collide – for better or worse.
“During meetings, not just this season, there have always been situations where we have pitted different ideas against each other. You can agree or disagree.
But then comes the jab:
“I’ve had much worse discussions than this one.
Allegri almost smiles when he says that. The point is clear: This is football. Conflicts are part of it. The most important thing, he emphasizes, is that everyone is working in the same direction.
The way forward
The question is whether Allegri and Ibrahimovic can continue to pull in the same direction. Both are strong personalities with deep roots in the club’s identity. But when the results are not forthcoming, small disagreements quickly turn into big explosives.
For Milan, it’s no longer just about points. It’s about power, respect – and about who really steers the ship.
One thing is certain: In Milan, the two heavyweights have not said their last word.
