Kylian Mbappé sees himself as the best player in the world and expects to be treated accordingly. At PSG, the French superstar dictated the terms, and for a period of time has served as a self-appointed sporting director with responsibility for who plays. Then came the transfer to Real Madrid in the summer of 2024, with a signing fee of an astonomic €150 million and the club’s highest-paid player. Since this summer, Real Madrid have stopped winning titles (while PSG won the Premier League in the first season without Mbappé). Now there is a buzz in Madrid.
Kylian Mbappe has been out for the last couple of weeks with a hamstring injury. According to El Mundo , several of Real Madrid’s players have reacted to his behavior in the past week, which has included traveling around parts of Europe with actress girlfriend Ester Exposito. According to Marca , the relationship between Mbappé and several of the players is cool, with Vinicius Junior being the more unifying offensive force in the squad.

Diario AS claims that although Mbappe was allowed to continue his recovery in Cagliari, his lack of discretion with his arrival back in the Spanish capital has been poorly received. Mbappé will undergo further tests on Wednesday to determine if he can return to action this weekend, when Real Madrid travel to Camp Nou to face Barcelona in El Clásico.
According to Sport , president Florentino Perez is anything but happy with Mbappé and his attitude. He expects the 27-year-old to be fit to face the Catalan club, and wants him out on the pitch, despite the fact that the tests have not yet taken place.

After two years without a major trophy, Mbappe is at least increasingly under pressure to deliver. While his goal stats are arguably impressive (85 goals in 100 appearances in a Real shirt), his team’s lack of success has led to a number of Real Madrid’s stars being criticised for their performances. Mbappe is increasingly being referred to as part of the problem.
