Daniil Medvedev’s emotions were high when he defeated Aleksander Zverev in the fight for the quarterfinals of Indian Wells. The Russian argued with the referee, complained about the condition of the court and sprained his ankle. He even shouted, “It’s a disgrace to this sport!” What did Medvedev think was a disgrace?
Daniil Medvedev is known for his numerous discussions with the referees and outbursts of anger on the court during the match. Most often this happens when Medvedev plays worse or gets tired. Medvedev’s latest annoyance came in the Indian Wells fight for the quarter-final.
It was a fierce duel. Medvedev and Zverev went head to head for 3.5 hours. Eventually, the duel ended victorious for the Russian with the result 6:7 (5-7), 7:6 (7-5), 7:5. Medvedev was an extremely problematic opponent for Zverev as he disrupted the order of the game. Medvedev then said he would go to the restroom and walk as slow as he could because he could do whatever he wanted on such a crappy court. After returning from the restroom, Medvedev sprained his ankle. This threatened with the need to withdraw from the match, but the Russian used the help of medics and finally finished the match, triumphing. In the quarterfinals, he played with Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, whom he defeated in straight sets. Now he’s in the semi-finals of Indian Wells.
