It has been an eventful week for Norwegian football players abroad. From contract negotiations in London to transfer rumours in Germany and Italy – here are the most important issues.
Martin Ødegaard: Arsenal are pressing on – Bayern are lurking in the wings
Martin Ødegaard is perhaps the Norwegian player who has made the most headlines this week. According to Sky Sport Germany, Arsenal are in the process of extending the contract of their captain, and the club has already had informal talks with the player.
RB Leipzig have secured – rake in extra bonus as Yan Diomande lifts the Ballon d’Or award
The background is that Bayern Munich have reportedly shown interest in the Norwegian. However, the Germans do not have Ødegaard on their list of priority transfer targets now, but the situation could change if the contract negotiations with Arsenal do not go ahead.
Ødegaard has a contract until 2028, and Arsenal want to avoid him entering the final year of his deal. The 27-year-old midfielder has had a strong period after struggling with injuries last season – he has only missed one game since June 7, and stands with five goals and nine assists in the 24 games he has played.
Erling Haaland: Rested in the League Cup – but stole the show
Erling Haaland didn’t play a single minute as Manchester City beat Brighton on penalties in the League Cup on Wednesday. Manager Enzo Maresca chose to rest the striker along with several other key players.
However, that didn’t stop the Norwegian from becoming the most talked about person of the evening. After City had secured advancement, Haaland entered the pitch in an outfit inspired by the “Home Alone” villain and danced in front of the home fans. The video quickly spread on social media.
This weekend, Haaland will be back in action when City face Brighton again – this time in the Premier League. The Norwegian already has nine goals in the league this season.
Antonio Nusa: Chased by big clubs
Antonio Nusa has impressed for RB Leipzig this season, and the 21-year-old winger has now caught the interest of several European big clubs.
According to Spanish media, Atlético Madrid have placed Nusa at the top of their wish list as a possible replacement for Álex Baena, should the Spaniard disappear to Arsenal. Leipzig are said to demand between 60 and 80 million euros for the Norwegian.
At the same time, the English Mirror reports that Arsenal are also following Nusa closely, and that the club feels confident that they can secure his services. Nusa has 10 goal points in 12 games so far this season.
Alexander Sørloth: Juventus consider bid
Alexander Sørloth has had a difficult season at Atlético Madrid. According to Turkish media, Juventus have started the process of signing the Norwegian striker.
Sørloth has only played 20 minutes in two games for Atlético this season, and has not contributed any goals or assists. The 30-year-old striker is said to be open to a change of club.
Oscar Bobb: Nominated for player of the round
Oscar Bobb made a rare appearance in the spotlight when he was nominated for the Premier League’s “Player of the Round” after scoring the only goal of the game for Fulham against Coventry.
The Norwegian scored after 79 minutes to secure Fulham’s second win of the season. He competes against Gabriels (Arsenal) and Nicolas Jackson (Aston Villa), among others, for the award.
