Last week it was announced that five disciplines had been added to the Olympic sports catalogue. These disciplines are scheduled to debut at the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. Here are the sports added to the Olympics.

Baseball (softball – the women’s version of baseball), cricket, flag football, lacrosse and squash have been officially included as additional sports in the program of the 2028 Games in Los Angeles. For baseball, softball, cricket and lacrosse, it will be a return to being an Olympic sport, while flag football and squash will appear at the Olympics for the first time.

The board of the Olympic Committee also issued recommendations regarding three other disciplines whose appearance in the program of the Games in Los Angeles in 2028 was uncertain. Weightlifting remains on the Olympic program for now, but will be closely monitored by the organizers due to numerous doping scandals in this sport. The modern pentathlon will be a way to replace horse riding – one of the competitions it takes part in – with obstacle racing. This follows the controversy over the treatment of animals that emerged during the 2021 Tokyo Games. The Olympic committee also maintained plans to remove boxing from the list of Olympic sports.

What do you think about the changes introduced?
