Manchester United were chasing a new left-back for several months, with the top target being a 22-year-old Newcastle player. The Red Devils tried their hand at bidding, but were quickly met with a closed door at St. James’ Park. After the transfer window closed at the beginning of the month, it was reported by various English media that United will go hard to secure Hall in the January window. On Friday, this door was also closed.
Lewis Hall’s contract expires in 2028, where Manchester United saw their opportunity to push for a “decent” transfer fee. On Friday, Newcastle confirmed a change in the Hall situation.

Because the 22-year-old has now extended his contract until 2031 and creates peace of mind at St. James’ Park.
“I am extremely happy. It is a moment I am very proud of. It is a great pleasure to play for this club and to represent the supporters. I know how much it means to them,” the left-back said in a statement.
Coach Matthias Jaissle is of course also pleased.
“I’ve been impressed with Lewis ever since I came here. He’s a very important player for us and for what we’re building here, so this is exciting news… What pleases me the most is that I think the best of Lewis is still to come.”

There should be no buyout clause in the contract, so in principle, Hall’s extension with Newcastle means that the door is closed – also in January. And next summer.
