There’s something about Chelsea and goalkeepers. While Liverpool have had their Alisson and City, their Ederson, one, after another first goalkeeper has come and gone at Stamford Bridge. The last man is Robert Sanchez, who has also not given the defense the necessary security behind him. Strasbourg goalkeeper Mike Penders is impressing at Chelsea’s sister club, and according to Teamtalk , the Belgian was expected to take over Chelsea’s first-choice goalkeeper position.

Liam Rosenior reportedly had strong internal support for Penders to be Chelsea’s long-term solution between the sticks, amid concerns about the inconsistent form of current number one Robert Sanchez. Rosenior knew the 20-year-old well, and had the green light for him to compete immediately for the role at Stamford Bridge.

According to Teamtalk’s sources , the situation has changed with Alonso ready for Stamford Bridge. One of the main priorities that is now emerging is the signing of a more experienced goalkeeper.

With this, Penders is out, while Brighton’s Bart Verbruggen, Sunderland’s Robin Roefs, AC Milan’s Mike Maignan and Everton’s Jordan Pickford are on the list of candidates.
