Rashford praised United captain Bruno Fernandes after the Portuguese equalled the Premier League’s assist record. Fernandes netted 20 assists in the team’s win over Nottingham Forest, and Rashford was quick to comment on the Instagram post marking the feat.
His comment read: “Setting levels, as always ❤️”
Fernandes later replied, “@marcusrashford, my brother ❤️.”
If Fernandes delivers one more assist on the final day of the season against Brighton, he will break the record set by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne.
Rashford’s own situation: unused substitute – while Barcelona celebrate
Just hours after Fernandes’ sensational performance at Old Trafford, Rashford sat unused on the bench as Barcelona played their last La Liga game of the season at Camp Nou – against Real Betis.
Fernandes actually sent a greeting to Rashford after he himself scored a fantastic free-kick in another game – a victory that secured Barcelona the Spanish league title.
For Rashford, it was his 14th goal of the season, and the 28-year-old seems more determined than ever to stay at Barcelona after his loan spell. New reports from Spain, via Mundo Deportivo, claim that Rashford has already signed a three-year contract with a reduced salary.
… But then everything turned around anyway
With negotiations still stalled, Rashford is reportedly willing to tear up the deal – and instead commit to a five-year contract. It will help Barcelona afford the transfer, because they can spread the costs over a longer period of time.
A £26.2 million purchase option was included in his loan deal, and United have consistently insisted that he must be sold permanently for at least that amount – otherwise he will have to stay at the club.

Michael Carrick, who will become the club’s permanent head coach, is open to Rashford’s return. But that attitude does not seem to be shared by Rashford himself – even though Ruben Amorim is no longer at the club.
A big summer awaits at Old Trafford
Regardless of how his future develops, it will be a big summer at Old Trafford – with United ready for Champions League football next season.
The club’s first sale was confirmed on Sunday: Rasmus Hojlund joined Napoli for £38 million. His buyout clause was triggered when the loan club secured Champions League qualification after victory over Pisa.
Carlos Baleba, Adam Wharton, Ederson, Aurélien Tchouaméni, Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes are just some of the other options that have been linked with United.
