Kylian Mbappé has been linked to Liverpool for several rounds. Over the past year, Jürgen Klopp has told how he, together with a delegation from Liverpool, picked up the Mbappé family in a private plane to convince the Frenchman to sign for the Reds. Now one of the world’s best players follows by telling how close it was, and that it was that he went against his mother’s will, that stopped the transfer.
It was in 2016, when his mother did his part to convince her son that Anfield should be his next destination. “I was close to Liverpool. My mother’s preferred club was Liverpool. She wanted me to go there,” Mbappé begins in an interview with The Athletic.

“I didn’t listen to her because I wanted to play in my own city, Paris. I didn’t want to leave my country until I had achieved something. But yes, my mother always said: ‘Liverpool – you’re going to be there, playing at Anfield, and it’s going to be crazy for you,'” Mbappé continues.
“She went to the city and the stadium and met the people at the club. She said: ‘It’s a fantastic club, everyone is so friendly, it’s a family club, a big club. She went to Anfield and fell in love with it. She watched some games alone to feel the atmosphere because she wanted to imagine myself in this stadium,” Mbappé concludes.
