Now the world is voting again for the Swedes after manager Roberto De Zerbi has made it clear that he wants to keep Lucas Bergvall at Tottenham. TEAMtalk reports today that the club has toned down the talks about a possible departure for the Swede.

The 20-year-old has been one of Europe’s most sought-after young midfielders this summer. Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United have both made bids, while Brighton are also ready to fight for his signature.
We understand that Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig and Atlético Madrid are also monitoring the situation closely – and would be willing to act if Bergvall became available.
The interest was intensified after Bergvall informed Tottenham earlier this summer that he thought the best thing for his development would be to leave the club to get regular playing time. Spurs were initially reluctant to sell, but accepted that talks could take place if their valuation of at least £60 million was met.
But the situation has changed dramatically behind the scenes.
De Zerbi has spoken to Bergvall
Sources confirm that De Zerbi has reiterated to Tottenham management throughout the process that selling Bergvall would be the wrong decision. The Italian has quickly established himself as a central voice in the recruitment strategy.
TEAMtalk understands that De Zerbi has had long talks with Bergvall, acknowledging the midfielder’s concerns about his path into the first team – especially after Tottenham have invested heavily in midfield with Conor Gallagher, Sandro Tonali and Matheus Fernandes.
But De Zerbi has assured the Swede that he is still an important part of the long-term plans. The Spurs boss is said to have asked Bergvall to commit to the project at least until January – and assured that he will have opportunities to prove himself in the first half of the season.
That message seems to have had an effect.
Tottenham remove Bergvall from the market
We understand that Bergvall is now considering his options carefully – while Tottenham management is increasingly willing to follow De Zerbi’s recommendation and remove him from the market.
Although interest from England and the rest of Europe remains strong, Spurs have now withdrawn from discussions with interested clubs.
De Zerbi’s priority is to keep Bergvall at the club – but he is also pragmatic. If the Swede finally makes it clear that he still wants to go, despite the assurances he has received, the Italian is willing to reassess the situation.
However, De Zerbi has stressed internally that any decision must be in Tottenham’s best interests – and that the club should not approve a sale unless they are completely satisfied with both the sporting and financial outcome.
