Another World Cup coach says goodbye. Algerian national team manager Vladimir Petkovic has resigned from his position.
Since this summer’s World Cup, close to a third of all national team coaches who participated have either resigned or been fired. Now another name can be added to the list: Vladimir Petkovic in Algeria.

The Algerian Football Association confirms that the decision has been made by mutual understanding. Thus, a long-term saga is over. After the World Cup, there were reports that Petkovic would be fired. A short time later, it was claimed that the coach did not want to leave the post voluntarily. Now the parties have reached an agreement.
The 62-year-old Petkovic took over as Algeria’s national team manager in February 2024, and had his contract extended until 2028 just before the World Cup. He led the team in 33 games.
In the World Cup, Algeria reached the last eight, where they were knocked out by Switzerland.
In the autumn, Algeria will start qualifying for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. Without Petkovic.
