United legend Paul Scholes was furious at the treatment Ruben Amorim and Manchester United gave Kobbie Mainoo. From being the most positive in the United game – as a teenager – during a tragic period under Erik ten Hag, to being completely sidelined by Ruben Amorim. It went so far that Scholes recommended Mainoo to sign with Chelsea, who were ready to take advantage of the situation. Now Scholes is smiling again, Mainoo has under Carrick been given the role he deserves, all uncertainty about an exit has now been removed with an extension until the summer of 2031. Ruben Amorim has nevertheless had an indirect positive influence in it all.

In an interview with Sky Sports , Mainoo admits that at one point he considered leaving United, but with a contract extension in place, Mainoo says that he has also been strengthened by the adversity under Amorim.
