Last month, signals began to emerge from the Spanish media that Real Madrid were considering selling “untouchable”, Aurelien Tschouameni. From the English media, reports came that this had put Manchester United on the scene, with the French international on the shortlist of potential midfielders in the summer transfer market. Then the 26-year-old got into a fight with teammate Ernesto Valverde this week, and a sale of Tschouameni looked very relevant. The legend Ruud Guilitt encourages the suitors to control their optimism, a fight with teammates was commonplace in his time.

Guillit wreaked havoc with opposing defenders in the 1980s and 90s at AC Milan, Chelsea and the Dutch national team, when asked if Tschouameni’s brawl means automatic sale, Gullit draws a historical comparison.

“As for Aurélien Tchouaméni, there is interest from Man United, that’s for sure. He’s a dream target for Man United, but that doesn’t mean he [Tchouaméni] is going to Man United because he had an argument with Valverde,” Gullit begins, according to Metro.

However, Gullit sees only one scenario where a player of Tchouameni’s calibre leaves Real, suggesting that United will probably have to look elsewhere to strengthen their midfield.

“I don’t care about it (fighting) – it’s normal, and it has to happen. You need to get rid of your frustration. In a team, you don’t have to like each other. You can dislike someone, but you have to respect them because they are an important asset to the team. But conflict will always come. It has to. Football cannot exist without conflict, Gullit further doses.

But you don’t leave just because you want to go somewhere else, it doesn’t happen, it comes from the Dutch legend.
