Sandro Tonali wants to “honour his word” and sign for Tottenham Hotspur this summer. “It won’t be free, big money has to be sent to Newcastle and the wages, it will be impressive.

Spurs have been heavily linked with the Italian midfielder in the summer window, and the Lilywhites have already had an initial bid of £75m rejected by Newcastle United. The club is even said to have made a bizarre second bid that was no higher than the first – and was of course rejected again.

Tottenham are planning to return to Newcastle with another bid. The Magpies want a total package of £100 million to release Tonali.

Tonali gets big pay rise at Tottenham

According to Sky Sports Italia, Tonali has already “said yes” to Spurs, with personal terms in place for the 26-year-old. Italian journalist Alfredo Pedullà claims that Tonali will increase his salary from £8 million a year at Newcastle to between £12 million and £13 million in north London.

However, Tottenham will have to agree with Newcastle on the transfer fee and payment structure. GIVEMESPORT understands that Spurs are willing to stretch to £85 million, with potential add-on clauses that could convince Newcastle to sell.

Several clubs are in the fight – but Tonali has given his word

Tottenham face stiff competition for Tonali’s signature. Manchester City are showing great interest, while they are also working on a £116m move for Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest. Manchester United and Arsenal have also been mentioned as interested.

Nevertheless, Tonali has reportedly given his word to compatriot Roberto De Zerbi that he wants to sign for Spurs this summer.

On his podcast Caffè di Marzio, Italian football journalist Gianluca Di Marzio stated that Tonali is “determined to honour his word to Roberto De Zerbi” – and that he therefore chooses Tottenham.

Spurs in talks for more star signings

The Tottenham owners are ready to back De Zerbi in the transfer market this summer. Four new players are already in place – three on free transfers (Martin Dúbravka, Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi) and Jan Paul van Hecke in a deal worth £52 million.

Spurs want to make a statement signing this summer. They are in talks not only with Tonali for up to £100 million, but also with West Ham about Mateus Fernandes. The Hammers star will cost over £80 million – meaning both players would smash Spurs’ club record for transfers if signed.
