There has been talk of both Everton and Real Madrid as a likely next stop for Scott McTominay, while a return to Manchester United was for a long time unlikely, largely due to how he was treated by ex-manager Erik ten Hag. “Now there are some managers since and the negative feelings towards his old club are not so strong anymore.
Scott McTominay is increasingly likely to leave Napoli in the summer of 2027. Journalist Sacha Tavolieri reports that his agent has maintained close relationships with several Premier League clubs – following talks with Manchester United.

McTominay was Italy’s favorite adopted son when he joined Napoli in 2024. He was named Serie A Player of the Season after a debut season with 12 goals and six assists, leading Napoli to the title.
The following season, the Scottish midfielder had 10 league goals and three assists.
However, this season he has been forced aside due to heart problems, and surgery has been performed to help him recover. Several sources believe that his time at Napoli is coming to a natural end anyway.
Insider Tavolieri, who reports for Sky Sport, reports that McTominay could consider a new chapter in England. He was approached for a return to former club United, as well as Aston Villa, in the summer.
After that, his agent is said to maintain close relationships with clubs in England, and has already had initial talks with some.
McTominay himself is said to be “nostalgic” and therefore very open to returning to the Premier League. According to the report, he will demand a fee of between €25-30 million (£21-25 million).
Time is almost up for Scott McTominay
Reports elsewhere suggest that the salary McTominay earns at Napoli is the main reason why his current club is willing to send him out.
Only four players are reported to earn more than his €107,000 per week (£90,500) salary.
Tuttomercatoweb has stated that it is “likely that McTominay will leave in 2027.”
They went on to say that Napoli are “reluctant to pay big salaries for a player who will soon turn 30.”
Whether McTominay will make an immediate return to England remains to be seen – as does which club he ends up at. But it feels like his time in Italy won’t last much longer.
