Michael Carrick has the full confidence of the club management – until he doesn’t have it anymore. We recognise the pattern that ends with Manchester United sacking the manager, but so far the manager, who has gone from 12 wins in 17 games last season, to seven games in a row without a win, has time to convince. Several candidates are mentioned as a potential replacement for Carrick if he is weighed too lightly, there is one candidate in particular we hope stays away from Old Trafford.
It is about Julian Nagelsmann. According to The Telegraph , the German has signalled that he is very interested in taking over Carrick’s job. Nagelsmann has been mentioned as a candidate in previous rounds of United’s coaching changes, but only now is the 39-year-old available for the job.

In January, Football-Insider’s sources claimed that Christopher Vivell, the recruitment director at Man United, pushed for Julian Nagelsmann to become the club’s next permanent manager. Vivell and Nagelsmann previously worked together at RB Leipzig and have a strong relationship.
Nagelsmann created great enthusiasm as a young and up-and-coming coach of Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig, but got a wake-up call when he was to lead Bayern Munich with expectations of only titles. We remember young Nagelsmann was asked about the Premier League before signing with Bayern Munich in 2021. At the time, he thought that it seemed a bit of stress in the world’s toughest league, but opened up about taking a Premier League job “at some point in the future”.

We weren’t particularly impressed with how Nagelsmann handled the extreme weekly pressure as Bayern Munich coach, especially when things got tough. At Manchester United, you have to multiply that by five. As national team manager of Die Mannschaft , Nagelsmann hasn’t impressed either.
Julian Nagelsmann is not the right man to lead Manchester United for us.
