Things have gone downhill for Bayer Leverkusen after newly appointed Chelsea manager Xabo Alonso left for Real Madrid last summer and handed over the helm to Danish Karper Hjulmand. – It must be said that it is almost impossible to follow up on the success that Xabi Alonso managed to create at the Bundesliga club.

Bayer Leverkusen have thanked Kasper Hjulmand for his efforts and as usual in German football, they have their replacement ready minutes later.

The club wrote on social media:

THANKS, Kasper! 🙏

Thank you for your dedication and commitment. Your warm and friendly personality was greatly appreciated. We wish you all the best for the future. Take care of yourself, Kasper Hjulmand!

The kicking itself took a little longer than most people thought, it has been a poorly hidden secret that the Dane is on his way home.

Bayer Leverkusen have reached an agreement with Carles Martínez, who will take over the coaching job from Kasper Hjulmand.

Kasper Hjulmand has for a while looked like a “Dead Man Walking”

Several coaches have reportedly been in the race to take over for the 54-year-old Dane at Bayer Leverkusen. They landed on Spanish Carles Martínez. The 42-year-old has been contracted for the next two years with a renewal clause.

Carles Martínez has been in charge of Toulouse for the past three seasons and led them to a ninth-place finish in Ligue 1.

Leverkusen have also been reported to be in talks with Andoni Iraola, but the former Bournemouth manager appears to have been hijacked by Liverpool.

It is also Jens Berthel Askou who takes over the vacant coaching position in Toulouse.
