After the 2-0 loss to Atletico Madrid, which followed the sour points loss to Tottenham at Old Trafford with Spurs equalising in injury time, Lisandro Martinez couldn’t contain his displeasure with the sporting director who had failed in the transfer market. There are two United players who will probably feel extra pressure after the Argentine’s outburst.

“This was bad, very bad. I have to restrain myself, but it’s a reflection of our club right now. We expect more from the management. I’m calling for more investment. Other clubs have brought in a lot of players. Atlético have a fantastic squad and they deserved to win today. I expect more from the sporting director (Jason Wilcox), that’s how honest I have to be. We players also have to do more, but it’s important to build a squad that can handle a night like this,” Martinez grumbled. Martinez hummed to Amazon Prime.

This was harsh criticism of Man Utd’s sporting director, but also indirectly affects two young players.

Gary Neville addressed the Argentine’s criticism on The Overlap.

“What he says is right, they should have brought in more defenders, but you can’t say that as a player,” the United legend begins.

“If you say it publicly as a player, you’re effectively saying that the players I’m playing with aren’t good enough. That’s where the players have to take him seriously. If you’re Leny Yoro or Ayden Heaven, and you’re a little bit unsure whether you’re going to settle down in the first team, and you’re a young player, you think, ‘My World Cup-winning centre-back has said we should have brought in more players, so I’m not playing’, then you feel really nervous and anxious,” Neville said.
