The world could have looked completely different for Tottenham (and West Ham) if loan player João Palhinha hadn’t found the back of the net on Sunday.

João Palhinha has reiterated his desire to stay at Tottenham permanently: “Who doesn’t want to play for Tottenham?”

The Portuguese has been a regular for Spurs in what was close to becoming a tragic season. He was essential when the club secured a new Premier League contract. He scored the decisive winning goal in the weekend’s 1-0 win over Everton at home at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

“A very important day for the club, for everyone and for all the supporters. We are very happy with how we finished this day, because the main goal was to keep Tottenham in the Premier League,” Palhinha told ESPN after the game.

“I feel at home from day one”

Palhinha has made no secret of the fact that he enjoys his time at the London club.

“I’ve always shared my thoughts. From the very first day I arrived, I have felt at home. From the supporters, from the audience. This is a top club.

“Who doesn’t want to play for Tottenham and stay here? I have everything here, but this is like a marriage,” he says.

“I really want to be here”

The 30-year-old emphasizes that he hopes for a permanent transfer.

“What I can say is that I really want to be here. I have enjoyed myself very much this season – even though it has been a tough season for the club.

Palhinha joined Bayern Munich from Fulham for a reported sum of €51 million in 2024. He struggled to establish himself as a regular starter in Germany, before returning to England on loan.

Now he hopes that the borrowed stay will be made permanent. Tottenham supporters are probably crossing their fingers for the same.
