Reports are trickling out from Spain and England that Trent Alexander-Arnold and Real Madrid have agreed, but a contract still hasn’t been signed. The right-back will get a big pay rise, plus performance-based bonuses and a solid sign-on fee. An exit from Liverpool that will be inevitable? Jamie Carragher reminds the 26-year-old what is also at stake.
Carragher, like Alexander-Arnold, worked his way up from the academy, he didn’t stop until there were 737 Liverpool games on his CV with icon status at Anfield. Carragher explains what an exit this summer for Alexander-Arnold could do for his legacy.

“It’s more than a football decision. It’s about his legacy at Liverpool and how he is viewed. Do you want to be seen as [Steven] Gerrard or [Steve] McManaman?”, Carragher begins to Sky Sports.
“He (McManaman) went to Real Madrid and won cups, but he’s not loved. As a local player, Trent has been there for 20 years. I don’t think it would be nice to have a feeling of going on a free transfer. I guarantee Liverpool fans will feel that way,” Carragher continued.
-Things are expected of you as a local player. I think it’s difficult to leave Liverpool as a local player. I wanted to leave in the right way, so they remembered me in the right way. If he stays, he will be remembered as one of the best to have played for the club and not far behind Gerrard,” Carragher concluded.
