French giants Paris Saint-Germain are set to make life in the Championship for West Ham financially much easier with a deal that looks set to land at £70 million.

The East London club will have to let go of many of their players, already we know Aaron Wan-Bissaka is negotiating an exit that will see him stay in the Premier League. And today came the news that West Ham are close to agreeing a £70 million transfer for Mateus Fernandes to PSG – an announcement is expected soon.

West Ham United midfielder Mateus Fernandes is expected to leave for French champions Paris Saint-Germain, according to Keith Wyness. The former Everton boss believes a deal could be announced early in the summer transfer window.

There will be two different realities that are likely to face Mateus Fernandes after a transfer, while West Ham, along with Burnley and Wolverhampton relegated from the Premier League, Paris Saint-Germain have won Ligue 1 and face Arsenal in the final of the Champions League this weekend.

Several Premier League clubs are also said to be interested in signing Fernandes, who has been one of West Ham’s very best players this season. However, the 21-year-old Portuguese could not prevent the Hammers from being relegated to the Championship – which is likely to hasten his departure.

Must sell after the relegation

West Ham will have to sell players during the summer to improve their financial situation and reduce wage costs. The relegation is the club’s first to the second tier since the 2011/12 season.

– Could be as high as £70 million

Wyness, who was CEO of Everton between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football advisory company for elite clubs, believes West Ham could make up to £70 million from Fernandes.

In an interview with Football Insider’s “Inside Track” podcast, Wyness says that a deal for the Portuguese to join PSG is “in the process of being negotiated” right now.

“In an auction, it can be as high as £70 million,” says Wyness.

“That’s where I think the market will land. PSG are going to be very attractive for Fernandes, but he might as well stay in the Premier League. It’s about who dares to pay that amount.

“But I expect that deal with PSG to be made right now behind the scenes – and announced quite quickly when the window opens.

Fernandes’ stats from the 2025/26 Premier League season:

Statistics Value
Matches started 35
Successful Passes 87,5 %
Created chances 37
Successful dribbling 58,3 %
Defensive contributions 368

Also Castellanos on his way out

Another player who is likely to leave West Ham soon is striker Taty Castellanos. He joined the Hammers in the January window for around £25 million from Lazio, but the club may have to sell at a loss.

Former Manchester United scout Mick Brown has told Football Insider that Castellanos’ agent will be in talks with Premier League clubs about possible transfers this summer. The 27-year-old has no plans to play in the Championship – having scored six goals in 17 Premier League starts during the spring.
