Nuno Esperito was relegated last week with West Ham to the English second division. The London club delivered the goods in the last game with a 3-0 win over Leeds, but it didn’t help much as Tottenham carved their way to a 1-0 win over Everton to two points above the relegation zone. It has been reported that West Ham will now be forced to sell players for around £150 million in order to adapt to their new life in the Championship. Few thought Santo would keep his job, with a clause of zero compensation in the event of a dismissal after relegation. Now comes the surprising but pleasing news from West Ham.
“We have had meetings with head coach Nuno Espírito Santo earlier this week and are pleased to confirm that he has expressed his continued commitment to the club – as we have done to him. Nuno made it very clear that he is highly motivated for the challenge of leading West Ham back to the Premier League at the first attempt, the club’s website writes.

-That must be the clear goal for next season. Nuno previously spent a season in the Championship, where he was highly successful with 99 points and won the league with Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2018.
“Although the result on Sunday was painful, the board believes that there have been clear signs of improvement and progress in recent months, and we want Nuno to continue to develop that process.

“In the last 17 Premier League games, we took 25 points, equivalent to 1.47 points per game – a point harvest that over a whole season would have resulted in seventh place. In addition, we believe that the clear improvement in the team’s mentality and cohesion since January makes him the right man to lead us forward.”
Now direct promotion is planned – with Santo at the helm.
