Lukas Bergvall was brought to Tottenham in 2024, throughout the summer the Swedish international has been reported to be on his way away from the club. Something has happened, because now the 20-year-old has pulled out his pen and put his signature on the contract no one outside expected.
In his debut season at Tottenham 2024/25, Lucas Bergvall played his way into one of Europe’s best young midfielders, with the Swede helping Tottenham to the Europa League title. Then came “everyday life” last season, where a tough ankle injury and 1 poor goal in 33 games mirrored Tottenham’s horribly weak season.

Bergvall has been through periods with three different Tottenham managers, starting with solid playing time at Postecoglou, then a minor role under Thomas Frank. The Swede was barely on the pitch with Roberto de Zerbi at the helm in the final games of the season. According to The Athletic, the 20-year-old gave Tottenham management a clear message that he “wants new challenges”.
Now it turns out that Bergvall’s “new challenges” will be for De Zerbi and Tottenham. On Friday, the club confirmed that the Swede has signed a contract extension.

“I feel like we’re building something really good here. It’s an exciting time for the club, and that’s why I’m happy to extend my contract. I always try to achieve as much as possible and be the best version of myself – both on and off the pitch, and I know this is the right place for me to do that,” Bergvall told the club’s website.
