– The 33-year-old left the club one year before his contract expired – after only 115 minutes of play
Paul Pogba is done at Monaco. The 33-year-old 2018 world champion left the principality a year before his contract was due to expire, after persistent injuries prevented him from gaining a foothold.
Pogba joined Monaco in June 2025, but only managed to play 115 minutes in six games last season. Now both parties are ending the collaboration.

I think it was worth the try!
In a statement from the club, it says:
“After concluding that the objectives originally set were only partially achieved, AS Monaco and Paul Pogba have decided to terminate the contract that was supposed to last until June 2027. The club would like to express its deep gratitude to the 2018 world champion for the trust he placed in the institution and for the utmost professionalism he showed throughout his time at Monaco.
Pogba’s nightmare period
Pogba made his debut for Monaco in November last year – his first game in 811 days after serving a doping sentence.
He was originally given a four-year suspension after testing positive for DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone) while playing for Juventus, but the sentence was later shortened to 19 months by the Sports Court. After the decision, Pogba agreed with Juventus to end the partnership, and he settled in Monaco.
But the injuries have bothered him. A calf injury ruined much of his debut season. He eventually got fit and played 45 minutes against Saint-Priest on July 18 – but immediately suffered another thigh injury in training.
Since the 2021/22 season, when he was still at Manchester United, Pogba has not played more than 20 games in one season.

Thanks to the club
Pogba himself thanks Monaco for the moment:
“I want to thank the president and management, my teammates, all the staff and all the supporters who believed in me. Representing this club and the principality was an incredible experience. AS Monaco is an incredible club and even though I didn’t play as many games as I had hoped, I will always be grateful for the opportunity to wear their colours.
Monaco boss praises Pogba – off the pitch
Although Pogba didn’t make a big impression on the pitch, he was praised for his professionalism off it.
Monaco CEO Thiago Scuro stated:
“When he started, we explained that this was a big challenge – bold and ambitious. While the outcome is not what we had hoped for, it should not overshadow the enthusiasm that surrounded his return to club football. What he brought to the dressing room, especially to the younger players with whom he constantly shared his vast experience – was valuable. His attitude was exemplary throughout the match, showing the qualities of the outstanding champion he is. We wish Paul all the best for the future.
What now for Pogba?
Pogba is once again clubless. With 33 years under his belt, a body that is constantly failing, and very little playing time in recent years, his career is at stake. The question is whether any top club will take a chance on one of football’s most talented – but most injury-plagued – midfielders.
