Sergio Ramos could be the protagonist of one of the most unexpected transfers in La Liga, after Ángel Torres confirmed contacts to bring him to Getafe.
Sergio Ramos, a 40-year-old Spanish centre-back, could make a comeback in La Liga with Getafe CF. The president of the Madrid club, Ángel Torres, has confirmed that he has held talks with René Ramos – the player’s brother and agent – to explore a signing. While it is not currently a priority for José Bordalás, the club is considering the possibility – potentially as early as the January 2027 transfer window.

The former Real Madrid player has been clubless since leaving Rayados de Monterrey in December 2025. A potential move to the Coliseum is part of Getafe’s strategy to bring in experienced free agents – a policy that has already led to the signing of Dani Carvajal.
Torres confirms talks
The interest in Sergio Ramos became more than just speculation after Ángel Torres’ comments on the program Tablero Deportivo on Radio Nacional de España.
The Getafe president admitted to direct talks with the centre-back’s people, and his name is still among the options the sporting management is considering.
However, Torres also mentioned the biggest obstacle to completing the deal: Getafe currently have six centre-backs, and strengthening that position is therefore not a priority for José Bordalás.
The coach has primarily asked for wingers, which explains why the club has not yet taken the decisive step to sign the former Spanish international.
Still, the president kept the door open to resuming talks in the winter transfer window – especially if the team’s sporting needs change in the coming months.
Can be reunited with Carvajal
A potential arrival of Sergio Ramos would reunite two players who shared the dressing room for eight seasons at Real Madrid, from 2013 to 2021.
Dani Carvajal, a 34-year-old right-back, has just joined Getafe after his time at the Madrid club. His contract runs until the end of the current season.
The transfer illustrates Ángel Torres’ strategy to take advantage of the opportunities presented by the free agent market. The club offers contracts that suit its financial ability – and the chance to continue competing in LaLiga.
Ramos fits into that model, as no transfer fee is required. However, the signing depends on salary agreements and the registration conditions set by LaLiga.
The centre-back can look back on a career with four Champions League titles, five LaLiga trophies and a World Cup gold with Spain – as well as spells at Sevilla, PSG and Monterrey.
Other names on the block
A potential arrival of Sergio Ramos is not the only deal Getafe are considering. The club has also held talks about signing Jadon Sancho, a 26-year-old English winger who is currently clubless.
Ángel Torres has admitted José Bordalás’ interest in Sancho, even though the financial conditions make it difficult to complete the contract.
Another name in the sporting planning is Dani Parejo, a 37-year-old midfielder who is also available on the free agent market.
These moves compete for Getafe’s wage budget, making the signing of a seventh centre-back less of a priority as long as other positions still need reinforcement.
The decision on Sergio Ramos will depend on the needs Bordalás identifies, and the financial means available. Ángel Torres keeps in touch with his agent and does not rule out reopening negotiations in January 2027 – offering the centre-back the chance to return to Spanish football after his final spell in Mexico.
