The departure of the French full-back is gaining strength in the last few hours – and Deco is already preparing his successor at Camp Nou

The transfer market for FC Barcelona never stops, and in recent hours there have been signals of a first contact for Pedro Porro – the 26-year-old right-back from Tottenham – if Jules Koundé leaves the club this summer. There is currently no formal negotiation, and the Spaniard recently extended his contract with the London club until 2031.

Barcelona’s move is contingent on Koundé’s situation. His representative, Jonathan Kebe, visited Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper on Wednesday to have meetings with the club, while several major European clubs are keeping a close eye on the Frenchman’s situation. The agent’s visit was also confirmed by Catalan media on August 12.

Pedro Porro – an option for FC Barcelona at right-back

The name Pedro Porro is being considered as a preventative option in the planning – not as an immediate signing Deco has decided to chase. Barcelona have reached out to his inner circle to investigate his will and what conditions Tottenham would demand if it becomes necessary to find a replacement for Koundé.

The transfer presents significant contractual challenges, as Porro extended his deal with Tottenham until June 30, 2031 – giving the London club room to set their own financial demands. The right-back currently has a market value of around €45 million.

Barca’s interest is not solely a result of the recent movements around Koundé. Already in July – after the World Cup – Porro’s performances for Spain were highlighted, which attracted the attention of Barcelona’s sporting management. But his recent extension with Tottenham complicated any immediate signing attempt.

At 26 years old, Porro also has experience in LaLiga, with previous stints in Girona and Valladolid before making a name for himself abroad. His arrival would directly cover the right-back position if Barcelona end up losing one of the players who has accumulated the most minutes in that role in recent seasons.

Koundé’s status affects all work with Tottenham

The outcome of the Jules Koundé saga will determine whether FC Barcelona turns the initial interest in Porro into a concrete operation. The defender officially extended his contract in August 2025 until June 30, 2030, giving Barcelona breathing room – there is no rush to get rid of him.

Koundé joined the club in 2022 and reached 150 official games for Barcelona last season. Although he started his career as a centre-back, during his time at Barcelona he has primarily played as a right-back.

The possibility of a sale has gained momentum due to foreign interest. Tottenham, Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal and Bayern Munich are all involved in discussions surrounding the Frenchman – although he has not yet publicly stated that he wants to leave Barcelona.

The next step will be the upcoming conversation between Hansi Flick and Koundé, as well as any bids the club may receive. Until there is an accepted bid from both Koundé and Barcelona, contact around Pedro Porro will remain exploratory. Should the departure become a fact, Tottenham will be one of the clubs Barcelona’s sports management will have to deal with.
