Liverpool and Iraola Andoni escaped with the horror at St. James’ Park in the season opener, but no more than that. Jamie Carragher has over 700 appearances for the club and has always been the positivity even when commentating on his own club. The football commentator, who brings in around a million pounds to talk about football, believes Reds may have been set back several years after last summer’s shopping spree on the transfer market.
“My fear when I watched Liverpool (on Sunday), and this is the first game of the season, is that this transfer window 12 months ago could set Liverpool back a year or two before it’s fixed,” Carragher begins on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football.

Liverpool spent well over two hundred million pounds on Florian Wirtz and Isak, in addition to Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Giorgi Mamardashvili and Hugo Ekitike were bought for significant sums.
“Yes, it’s one game with Iraola (as coach), but we’re talking about 12 months of underperformance from all these players except him (Ekitike),” Carragher continued.
“If this doesn’t change in the next two or three months under Iraola, and these players don’t improve, I think we’re going to look back on this as maybe the worst transfer window we’ve ever seen in Premier League history, when you consider the transfer fees for these players and what they were supposed to do for Liverpool,” Carragher continues.

“The idea with these players wasn’t just that they would come in and be good players, it was to create a little dynasty for Liverpool. Let’s not forget that Liverpool won the league two years ago – these were expected to do what City have done in recent years, or United, where they win two or three league titles in five years, says a humming Liverpool legend.
