This time I think it will take ten wild horses to get Eirik Horneland to leave Brann for the big abroad.
The 51-year-old was presented as Brann’s new head coach in the morning hours today and has signed a deal until 2030. He will also be joined by Erik Huseklepp, Morten Kalvenes and Hassan El Fakiri in the support system.

It’s been a month since Brann said goodbye to head coach Freyr Alexandersson
Brann is after a losing streak down in 11th place in the Eliteserien, closer to the red line than playing in Europe. – The new coaches have a big job to do before the Eliteserien is back after the summer and the World Cup break. – We have to believe that Eirik Horneland will be able to reverse the trend for Brann and not be relegated as he did with French Saint-Étienne.
To Brann’s pages, he talks about Brann and how fantastic it is to be back. It feels incredibly nice to be back among friends, back at Norway’s most intimate and beautiful stadium and in Norway’s most beautiful city. It’s a bit emotional, says Eirik Horneland when asked how it feels to be back in Brann and Bergen, a year and a half after he left the club.
And then it’s natural to ask what makes it emotional.
“It’s because I’ve had the best time of my life here before. It has left a mark on my body, in both me and my family. I have so many good memories from here and I want to create new ones.
Eirik Horneland returns – the 51-year-old ready for a new Brann period
Eirik Horneland’s previous Brann period was a real success story.
He was originally hired as an assistant to Kåre Ingebrigtsen, but took over the main responsibility during the weak 2021 season. It ended in relegation after an autumn marked by the nachspiel scandal.
But the Bergens fought back brilliantly. A superb promotion was followed by silver in the Eliteserien and cup gold. Brann also took silver in 2024 – only three points behind Bodø/Glimt.
A few weeks after the end of the season, Horneland announced that he was stepping down as Brann coach. A short time later, the Haugalander was given the job of saving Saint-Étienne from relegation in Ligue 1. It didn’t work out, but Horneland was allowed to continue – before he had to leave anyway in January 2026.
Now he is back where he had the most success. Brann supporters can rejoice.
