It seems like half an eternity ago, but it’s actually only been four or five months since Ruben Amorim was still in charge of Manchester United. With a World Cup playoff and only a short time before the pre-season starts, the Portuguese has been linked to several jobs in recent weeks. This week has been about a potentially controversial appointment.
Benfica will thank Mourinho in a few days for the job, where he himself has been summoned to bring the “hatchet” into the dressing room at Real Madrid and get the squad in order. According to English journalist Ben Jacobs, Benfica president Rui Costa has been actively working to bring in Amorim as a replacement.

Amorim himself has played for Benfica, but as a former Sporting coach, Amorim would create plenty of noise in Portugal with a Benfica signing, especially among the supporters. Jacobs claims Amorim has been contacted and told he is one of the favorites to take the job. Negotiations had begun, but reportedly broke down this week.
