We well remember the atmosphere when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over at Manchester United after the players had had a few last months with a sulking and angry Mourinho. The United legend brought laughter and fun to the training ground from day one, it turned out that the United players needed a working day without being scolded. The results were not lacking, the ship was turned around during the first few months. So when the Besiktas players were ready for the first training session with a new coach, they of course got the full “Solskjaer treatment”.
The Norwegian was criticized in the English media in his last year as United manager for being too kind. Solskjaer is tough where needed, but has a philosophy that it is possible to have fun on the training ground, even if it is bloody serious football on match day.
The Besiktas players had their first meeting in action with Solskjaer and the coaching staff, shoulders immediately sank a few notches, a prerequisite for being able to deliver at the highest level over time.
