Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has a lot of respect for manager Michael Carrick even though he was benched in the disastrous game against Bournemouth at the weekend. “The sacking of Carrick, which is guaranteed to come very soon, is referred to as the very last straw that breaks the camel’s back for the Portuguese midfielder.
Since Bruno Fernandes landed at Old Trafford in the winter of 2020 on a transfer worth 65 million euros from Sporting, he has had to deal with a whopping 5 managers and soon the sixth will arrive. – As a small curiosity, Ruben Amorim took over Sporting right after Bruno Fernandes left the club and created the success that just over four years later brought him to Manchester United.
Bruno Fernandes ended up in 27th place in yesterday’s Ballon d’Or ranking as the only Manchester United player.

AC Milan are keeping a close eye on Bruno Fernandes’ situation at Manchester United, and Ruben Amorim is hoping for a reunion with his former captain.
According to Calciomercato.com, the relationship between the Portuguese midfielder and the club has deteriorated significantly, and he may be pushing for an exit in January.
Fernandes was on the bench in United’s defeat to Bournemouth at Old Trafford at the weekend. That came after he publicly criticised the club after the 4-1 defeat to Como in the Champions League, saying United were focusing too much on their former greats rather than looking to the future. Michael Carrick, who himself is under increasing pressure, publicly disagreed.
The contract and the challenges for AC Milan
Fernandes’ contract runs until June 2027, and negotiations over an extension have stalled. United have the option to extend his contract for another year – something they can trigger to avoid losing him for free and secure a transfer fee instead.
His contract also includes a buyout clause of almost €65 million for foreign clubs, and the 32-year-old turned down lucrative offers from Saudi Arabia this summer.
The biggest obstacle for Milan will be his net salary of €10.2 million per season – far above what the Rossoneri can afford. Both the player and the club will have to make sacrifices for a deal to be possible.
Amorim knows Fernandes well from his time at Old Trafford. He believes that the former Udinese, Sporting and Sampdoria player can flourish in one of the two attacking roles behind the striker in his 3-4-2-1 system.
AC Milan will host Bologna at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza on Wednesday afternoon.
