According to the major newspaper L’Equipe, Liverpool have shown great interest in Rayan Cherki, making 152 appearances, 19 goals and 28 assists for Lyon, this at the age of 21. The striker is described as a bit of an attacking sensation in Ligue 1, now the door is wide open for Liverpool.
Borussia Dortmund and PSG have also been linked with the French player who rushes forward just as naturally on the wings as from an attacking midfield position, but it is Liverpool who are reported to be in pole position. Lyon are struggling financially, now Lyon owner John Textor confirms that Cherki is available for transfer in January.

“We have 29 players in the first team. Ideally, we should go down to 23 or 24. Pierre Sage (Lyon’s head coach) has to decide which players go on, because we have too many. We lost a lot of money by not selling Cherki this summer, but we have since signed a new contract with him, and he is worth more today than he was in the summer. He should stay at the club in the January window, but it’s up to him, as it always is in football,” the Lyon boss told L’Équipe.
With the 21-year-old also having a market value of €20 million and thus available within Liverpool’s budget, then we are well on our way to a transfer in January.
