Manchester City have lifted themselves after a losing streak Guardiola has never experienced before. With back-to-back wins over Leicester and West Ham, City are back in touch with a Champions League ticket, two points behind Chelsea. This does not mean that the crisis has been called off. Guardiola has repeated the message that he needs reinforcements in January, now a former apprentice of Guardiola is being linked to return to the Etihad.
According to Pete O’Rourke of Football Insider, the Light Blues are keen to bring back former City player Leroy Sané.
Sané spent four years in England, lifting Premier League titles and the FA Cup and delivering 39 goals in 135 appearances since his move from Schalke in 2016.
PFA Young Player of the Year returned to Germany in 2020 for Bayern Munich, where he has won three Bundesliga titles.
But he is now in the last six months of his contract at Bayern and can talk to foreign clubs about a pre-contract. This season, Sané has only started seven times in 17 games in the Bundesliga and Champions League under former teammate Vincent Kompany.
According to the English media, Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea are all keeping tabs on Sané – City are now also monitoring his situation closely.
The German is still well-liked, City supporters remember the energetic raids, jerks and finishes he produced at the Etihad Stadium.
Will be exciting to follow in the coming weeks. City brought back Gündogan, so why not Guardiola’s apprentice, Sané?
