After an impressive 2024-25 season in Manchester United’s youth teams, James Scanlon was named to a senior match squad for the first time on March 13, 2025, in a UEFA Europa League match against Real Sociedad, but is still without a first-team game. The following year, it became clear that the teenager had progressed so far in his development that he had to go on loan to get playing time at senior level. The choice fell on League Two club Swindon Town, Arsenal liked what they saw from the 19-year-old.
On Saturday, the reigning Premier League champions present Scanlon as a new Arsenal player.

With 100 appearances in United’s youth team and 24 senior caps for Gibraltar, England’s best club were convinced of their potential.
“I’m looking forward to representing the club, developing and hopefully showing people what I can do,” Scanlon said on Arsenal’s website.
