It has been several weeks since anyone in Sporten.com has suggested that someone at Old Trafford calls Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and brings him in as the new manager. We like Michael Carrick, but without direction and interaction as they used to say in Trøndelag in the old days, you don’t win trophies. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had direction and interaction.

No one complained when Carrick started as interim coach with consecutive wins, something Ruben Amorim failed to do during his fourteen months on the job. It ended with a strong 3rd place in the Premier League. It was therefore startlingly weak to see United come out of pre-season with permanent coach Carrick for the first Premier League game with a 2-0 loss to newly promoted Hull City at the weekend.

Chelsea travelled to Old Trafford and were sent to the shower with a 4-0 loss! Talk about the start of the season for the Red Devils.
The contrast between two backwards and no goals against newly promoted Hull City is great.
Of course, it is about the first game, but the players’ mentality, performances and the coach’s coaching in the first game say a lot about how ready the club is for the new season. Under Erik ten Hag’s and Ruben Amoriom’s wobbly leadership, we have written repeatedly that “Now is the time to call Solskjaer”.
