We’ve seen it several times since the best player in world history pulled on the pink Inter Miami shirt. The Argentine is the big rock star who attracts the masses who have never been near a football pitch, while ticket prices multiply. When the rock star doesn’t show up, then there is trouble. After a friendly match for the Argentine national team, Messi is sued (in familiar American style).

Miami-based VID Music Group is suing the Argentine ball artist, claiming that the Inter Miami star breached a contract by not playing in a scheduled friendly match last year, Reuters reports.

“According to the lawsuit, VID Music Group had an agreement with the Argentine Football Federation (AFA) to organize and promote Argentina’s international matches in the United States, including matches against Venezuela and Puerto Rico. The organizer claims that the agreement required Messi to play at least 30 minutes in each match unless he was injured, as his presence was contractually decisive for the commercial value of the matches.”

“VID Music Group accuses both Messi and AFA of breach of contract, fraud and having provided misleading information in connection with the agreement. Messi did not play in Argentina’s 1-0 win over Venezuela on October 11. The next day, however, he played for Inter Miami, scoring two goals in a 4–0 win over Atlanta United. He later also played in Argentina’s 6-0 win over Puerto Rico, where he provided two assists.”
