Tennis legend Serena Williams has announced that she is making a sensational comeback in singles at Wimbledon this summer. On Sunday, she was awarded the last wildcard by the All England Club.
The 23-time Grand Slam winner is back at SW19, where the tournament starts on June 29. The 44-year-old had already announced a long-awaited comeback on the historic grass courts – together with his sister Venus in doubles.

Now she is expanding to also play singles.
Williams thus becomes the oldest female singles player at Wimbledon since the Open Championship began in 1968. And she does it on the field where she has written the most history.
The legend that never ceases to amaze
Serena Williams is considered by many to be the best female tennis player of all time. She made her Wimbledon debut in 1998, and won her first singles title in 2002 – after beating her own sister Venus in the final.
It was the start of a legendary period that earned her seven singles titles on Centre Court (2002, 2003, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2015, 2016) and six doubles trophies. Throughout her career, she has completely dominated the women’s game, with 319 weeks at number one in the WTA rankings – a number few others can match.
Her last singles appearance at Wimbledon came in 2022, when she also participated in the wildcard. Now, two years later, she is ready for a new chapter.
Why this is big
That a 44-year-old mother and tennis legend returns to singles in the world’s most prestigious tournament is not only impressive – it’s historic. No woman her age has played singles at Wimbledon in the modern era.
She has already shown that she can challenge the test of time. The question is not whether she can win – but how far she can go.
And one thing is for sure: When Serena Williams enters Centre Court, the world stops.
