The Miami Open is the next tournament after Indian Wells that will not feature Novak Djokovic. The organizers of the Miami Open confirmed that the Serb will not play in the tournament due to the lack of permission to enter the USA without vaccinations.
– We tried everything to get Djokovic into the tournament, but it didn’t work out. Our tournament is one of the biggest in the world, so we want to have the best tennis players in the world. We did the best we could. – James Blake, director of the ATP 1000 tournament in Miami, told the Tennis Channel.
Novak Djokovic is known to oppose the use of any vaccines. Due to the lack of vaccination, the Serb could not take part in Indian Wells. He will also miss the Miami Open. All because of the lack of permission to enter the USA without proper vaccinations. Current restrictions at the U.S. border say that everyone entering the country must show a vaccination certificate. Novak Djokovic applied for a special exemption from vaccinations and permission to enter without a certificate. The US government rejected Djokovic’s application. American politicians intervened in the matter. Florida senators have appealed in an open letter to President Biden for mediation in the case of the tennis player and allowing him to enter the country. The president’s office did not respond.
Novak Djokovic won Miami Open six times in his career (2007, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016).
