Ever since right winger Moussa Diaby was sold to Saudi Arabia in the summer for €60 million, Aston Villa have been looking for a replacement. When the club’s biggest Douglas Luiz was sold to Juventus, it is not special this season has been a little more difficult than the last.

Last season, Aston Villa qualified for the Champions League with a 4th place, while now before Wednesday’s away meeting at Goodison Park against Everton (who have just brought back manager David Myes) in 8th place.

While there is talk of a return for Luiz, who is not doing so well in Italy, Aston Villa have managed to fill the void left by Moussa Diaby with Dutch Donyell Malen.

On Aston Villa’s pages, the 25-year-old says that it is an “incredible feeling! I am very happy, very proud”.

All autumn we have been hearing about the possible transfer and now both Borussia Dortmund and Aston Villa have confirmed the transfer, which according to Transfermarkt is worth 25 million euros.

Donyell Malen made 132 appearances and scored 39 goals during his 3.5 years at Dortmund. The striker has also previously played for PSV Eindhoven, where he scored 55 goals in 116 games.

Malen has made 41 appearances and scored nine goals for the Dutch national team.

For Malen, the move to Aston Villa will be a return to the British Isles. The striker previously played in Arsenal’s academy between 2015 and 2017.
