Nottingham Forest recently rejected a £121 million bid from Manchester City, demanding a higher guaranteed sum. Now, however, they are preparing to accept the latest proposal – which will surpass the previous British record of £125 million, set when Liverpool bought Alexander Isak last summer from Newcastle. A transfer that has not been good for anyone, apart from Newcastle’s account.
The deal is expected to include a significant upfront payment, which Forest have been pushing for, as well as additional clauses based on performance.
The 23-year-old Anderson is fully committed to the transfer. Sources close to the player confirm that he is getting ready to join City as soon as the World Cup assignments with England are over. Personal terms were agreed quite a while ago, and the player has constantly pushed for a move to the Premier League giant.
Luckily for England, they will have an easy opponent in the group stage on Saturday when they face Panama.
City see Anderson as a dynamic and versatile addition to the midfield. His performances for Forest last season – where he delivered big with high pass accuracy and energy – have convinced the management at the Etihad that he can be a key player under Enzo Maresca.
Forest pushed City to astronomical sum
For Forest, the departure of the star midfielder is a sporting loss, but at the same time a huge financial gain. The East Midlands club have fought hard in the negotiations, but both parties now seem to be getting closer to an agreement on the final details.
Although the deal has not yet been officially sealed, there is growing confidence from all parties involved that it will be finalized very soon.
Anderson will then undergo a medical test in the United States before formally becoming a Manchester City player ahead of next season.
The transfer will be one of the biggest signings of the summer – and underlines City’s determination to bolster their squad with the best English talent.
Anderson was always on his way away this summer, but the big question was who would pay the price. City are now ready to do so – and put an end to the transfer saga.
