With three wins in the Premier League in a row, things are brightening for Tottenham and the job security of manager Roberto de Zerbi. An important piece in the turnaround is Pedro Porro, who after coming on in Saturday’s win over Crystal Palace received one of the highest marks of the match with 7.63.
The London club are already looking for a replacement for Pedro Porro in Spain.

The English team is preparing to lose the Spanish international due to interest from Barcelona and Real Madrid
Pedro Porro could trigger a real domino effect on the transfer market in 2027. Tottenham have set their sights on Villarreal full-back Alex Freeman, as both Real Madrid and Barcelona chase the 27-year-old Spanish international – whose contract only expires in 2031.
Tottenham several options at right-back, and Freeman is among the candidates. The 22-year-old American arrived at Villarreal in January 2026 from Orlando City.
Pedro Porro arouses interest in Real Madrid and Barcelona
Pedro Porro’s future is once again causing movement in England. Despite renewing his contract on June 14, the defender is keeping open the possibility of returning to Spain – a situation that has attracted the attention of the two big LaLiga clubs.
Both Real Madrid and Barcelona are following the Spanish international before the summer of 2027. A transfer would mean negotiations with a Tottenham team that has the player tied until 2031, with an option to extend the deal until 2032. Real Madrid are planning to steal another goal from Barcelona: Pedro Porro.
Porro himself recently acknowledged that he wants to return to Spanish football, although he explained that he has not yet received a concrete offer from either club. His current priority remains to fulfill his obligations in London.
Last season, he made 47 appearances in all competitions and was the most used player in the squad. Roberto De Zerbi continues to rely on him, but Tottenham will have options ready if he leaves first.
Alex Freeman, Tottenham’s choice to replace Pedro Porro
The main candidate that appears in the reports about Tottenham is Alex Freeman, an American full-back who belongs to Villarreal. His development since arriving in Spain has caught the attention of several Premier League teams.
Freeman joined the Castellón team in January 2026 after excelling in the MLS. The transfer from Orlando City was completed for a fixed €3.2 million, plus an additional €2 million depending on whether the goals are met.
The American signed until June 30, 2032 – a situation that gives Villarreal a strong negotiating position without any pressure to sell. In addition, Orlando City keeps a percentage of a future sale.
International developments have also increased the price tag. Freeman played all five games for the United States at the 2026 World Cup and scored a goal against Australia, thus securing one of Mauricio Pochettino’s options.
There will be competition for Alex Freeman
Tottenham aren’t the only ones interested. Manchester United have also sent scouts to follow the defender, while Chelsea and Manchester City’s ownership groups have been keeping a close eye on his progress.
This competition could complicate the plans of the London club, who are considering Freeman as a solution for the future – and not necessarily as an immediate reinforcement.
The January 2027 transfer window will be the first opportunity to see if there are concrete offers for the American. Meanwhile, Tottenham will continue to monitor Real Madrid and Barcelona’s intentions for Pedro Porro – whose possible return to Spain will determine the final decision on his replacement.
