The NFL has announced a musical superstar for its very first Thanksgiving Eve game. The legendary Irish rock band U2, which was exciting once in the 80s, will play a halftime show during the showdown between the Green Bay Packers and Los Angeles Rams on November 25 at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.
The long-awaited game is streaming live on Netflix – adding an extra star touch to an event that is already drawing significant attention from both American football and music fans.

For U2, the performance marks a return to one of the NFL’s biggest stages. The band previously headlined the halftime show during Super Bowl XXXVI in 2002, just months after the September 11 terrorist attacks. The memorable performance featured iconic songs such as Beautiful Day, MLK , and Where the Streets Have No Name, and received widespread acclaim for its emotional tribute to the victims of the tragedy.
The NFL has a long history of delivering spectacular entertainment during holiday games. The Thanksgiving Day halftime shows have featured global stars such as Dolly Parton, Mariah Carey, and Shaboozey. In recent years, Netflix has also invested heavily in high-profile music performances, bringing in artists like Beyoncé and Snoop Dogg for its NFL broadcasts.
This year’s event could be one of the most talked-about halftime shows outside of the Super Bowl. The game will be played at SoFi Stadium, which will also host a future Super Bowl – making the arena a fitting stage for such a legendary act.
The performance comes at an exciting time for U2. The band is preparing for the release of their sixteenth studio album, Carnaval de Luz, on November 13. Fans have already gotten a taste through the singles Street of Dreams, Silencio , and The Greatest Show on Earth.
Beyond the new album, U2 is also looking forward to a major world tour planned for 2027 – making the NFL performance an important part of the band’s upcoming promotion.
With a blockbuster NFL game on the field and one of the world’s most successful rock bands on stage at halftime, the Packers–Rams showdown promises to be much more than just a football game.
