Arsenal have had an incredible season – despite losing in the Champions League final to Paris Saint-Germain.

The Gunners lifted the Premier League title for the first time in 22 years this season, but fell painfully short of a historic double when they lost on penalties to PSG in the Champions League final in Budapest on a Saturday of May.

It was a painful experience for manager Mikel Arteta, the players and the fans to endure – after what has otherwise been a fantastic 2025/26 season.

Arteta makes transfer plans in early summer

After the loss to PSG, the Arsenal boss laid out his plans:

“We are starting to make some very important decisions if we want to reach a new level. We have to show that ambition, because we are more than capable of it. But it requires us to be very, very ambitious, very fast and very smart,” he said.

It’s a clear sign that work needs to be done in the summer transfer window – and Arteta wants new players quickly.

Morgan Rogers could be a prey for Arsenal

One player they can make a move for is Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers.

GMS reports that Rogers is expected to leave Villa Park this summer. The reason is that the “Villans” have to balance their finances financially with regard to the Premier League’s new “Squad Cost Rules”, while at the same time having to follow UEFA’s strict rules on squad costs – after qualifying for the Champions League.

Rogers has previously been linked with a move to Arsenal, and according to reports, talks are already underway. GMS understands that the Gunners are “serious candidates” for his signature this summer.

It will cost Morgan Rogers has an estimated value of €90 million, according to Transfermarkt. Success for England in the World Cup will lift his value even further. Rogers came on for England after 72 minutes in yesterday’s 4 – 2 win against Croatia.

– Rogers is expected to leave Aston Villa

GMS Senior Football Correspondent Ben Jacobs says:

– Morgan Rogers is expected to leave Aston Villa. This isn’t about Rogers pushing for a move – he loves Unai Emery, and Villa have Champions League football. But the club still has some financial hurdles to overcome, even with the extra income.

“Bids above £80 million will be accepted. Interested clubs feel around £80 million. Villa sources I speak to believe they end up in the £80 million range, but maybe £90 and even 100 million could be the price – because we’re in an inflated market.

“Four teams are particularly active. Arsenal are a serious candidate – they want a starting left winger. Chelsea are looking for a creative striker. Manchester United and Rogers can develop, and PSG can also be a kind of outsider.

Trossard and Martinelli on their way out?

Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli are both expected to be sold from the Emirates Stadium this summer. Rogers – who earlier in the season famously described himself as “the best Premier League player” – would then be the perfect replacement on the left.

“Before Christmas and right after Christmas, I felt unapproachable: the best Premier League player, and that’s what I want to be,” Rogers said at the time.
