Finally it works out for Albert Grønbæk! The former Bodø/Glimt star, who took the “big step” into Europe with a Rennes signing in 2024, has had a continuous, sporting downturn since his first months as a Ligue 1 player. Toll trip at Rennes, toll trip on rental to Southampton and Genoa. Then came another downturn this winter after the loan to Hamburger SV, but here it turned around – now a contract is signed.
Albert Grønbæk has spent the last half of the season at Hamburger SV on loan. It started slow for the North German team out with injury, but it ended well with plenty of playing time, minutes, goals and assists.

For Grønbæk, there has been little sporting success after the exit from Bodø/Glimt. While he has followed his former teammates’ success in Europe, Grønbæk himself has worked hard to no avail, with far too much bench time at Rennes, Southampton and Genoa. Now the 25-year-old is back on the right course.

On Wednesday came the final playing time for the Danish national team, Friday came the signing of a contract with HSV.
“During his time with us, Albert quickly demonstrated the significant added value he brings to our game. His game intelligence, technical abilities and tactical flexibility provide precisely the skills that benefit our squad in several situations,” says sporting director Claus Costa to the club’s website.
According to Danish Bold, Grønbæk has signed a four-year contract, but HSV does not confirm the length of the deal. The Bundesliga club is paying Rennes around 4.5 million euros for the former Bodø/Glimt star.
