Almost immediately after Jota, whose full name is João Pedro Neves Filipe was sold to Al-Ittihad for 29,1 million euros, the Portuguese left winger realized he had made a mistake.
After six months of miserable desert football, Jota managed to arrange a transfer to French side Rennes, where he received a fraction of the salary he had in Saudi Arabia and actually also Celtic before leaving.

“Jota is back in paradise” – after 1.5 years!
First up, Jota was a key player as the Celts clinched back-to-back titles, securing a league and League Cup double and then a historic domestic treble over his two seasons with the Hoops.
He scored 28 goals in 83 appearances throughout that time, and like Celtic, he writes “lit up games with the kind of magical skill and creativity that is synonymous with great Celtic wingers”.
Rennes was already a blissful chaos and Jota didn’t fit in there either. Rennes, who are now in the qualifying place in Ligue 1, have sold the 25-year-old winger on to Celtic for 10 million euros, two million euros more than they sent to Al-Ittihad.
“It’s very nostalgic for me because it was an amazing feeling to be here for two seasons. ” I’m just so happy to be back and I can’t wait to get started,” Jota told Celtic’s website.
Jota first joined Celtic in 2021, on a season-long loan from Benfica. After that, the winger was bought out by the Scottish giants.
Celtic lead the Scottish league and are ready for the Champions League playoffs.
