Midfielder Kristian Thorstvedt, son of Tottenham legend and Norwegian national team goalkeeper for a number of years, Erik Thorstvedt wants to move on from Sassuolo. The trigger is said to have been the transfer of his manager Fabio Grosso, who has faith in the Norwegian 27-year-old and as an important factor the chance to play in the same team as David de Gea.
Goalkeeper David de Gea was chosen to continue at Fiorentina despite several opportunities in both Spain and England.

Kristian Thorstvedt was one of Norway’s big profiles during the World Championships this summer. Now the 27-year-old has decided that his time at Sassuolo is over – and a move to Fiorentina could be just around the corner.
Thorstvedt has played for Sassuolo since 2022, but now his new manager confirms that the Norwegian has asked to leave the club.
“Pinamonti and Thorstvedt are currently injured and have asked to be sold. That’s why they’re not there,” Sassuolo coach Aquilani told SportMediaset.
The goal is to be ready with a transfer during the weekend. “That probably doesn’t mean he’s going to be ready for Fiorentina’s away clash with Roma on Monday.
Fiorentina awaits – with David de Gea as captain
According to Italian Corriere dello Sport, the move to Fiorentina is close. The club finished last season behind Sassuolo’s 11th, but in the 2024/25 season they captured 6th place and a Conference League ticket.
Particularly interesting: Fiorentina’s new coach, Fabio Grosso, just managed Sassuolo before the transfer in June – with Thorstvedt permanently in the team. In other words, the 27-year-old has been handpicked by his new boss.
And who is ready to welcome him at the first training session? None other than Manchester United legend David de Gea – with 545 appearances and 188 clean sheets for United – who is now captain of Fiorentina.
This will be exciting! Thorstvedt may soon be ready for a new club, a new city and new challenges in Italian football.
