The final relegation place in the Premier League will not be decided until the very last day of the season.
Either West Ham are relegated while Tottenham keep their place – or vice versa. One of London’s big clubs will play in the Championship next season after a miserable season at the top level.

Tottenham have the upper hand – but need help
Tottenham are in the driver’s seat with a two-point gap to their city rival before the final round. That means they only need a draw at home to Everton to salvage their place – thanks to their clearly better goal difference.

For West Ham, the requirement is simple but brutal: Anything but a win against Leeds, and they are relegated. At the same time, they are dependent on Everton to do them a favour at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Therefore, Leeds will fight like nothing else
Neither Everton nor Leeds basically have much to play for on the last day. The final table positions are the only thing at stake.
But that’s exactly where the money lies.
Leeds are currently in 14th place. With a win over West Ham at the London Stadium, they can climb all the way up to 11th place. It may not sound dramatic – but it is very profitable.
The Premier League distributes money to all 20 clubs at the end of the season. Everyone gets an equal share, but then there are the merit payments – both nationally and internationally – as well as commercial revenues and construction fees. The higher you finish in the table, the more you get.
The figures for 2025/26 are yet to be confirmed, but if we use last year’s payments as a yardstick, Leeds would have earned £19.7 million in 14th place.
If, on the other hand, they climb past Fulham, Everton and Newcastle – who are all two points ahead of them before the final day – and finish in 11th place, the payout would be £28.2 million.
That’s a difference of £8.5 million.
Leeds in great form
Leeds are unbeaten in their last seven games. Barely two weeks ago, they drew against Tottenham. With an extra £8.5 million to spend in the summer transfer window, Daniel Farke has every reason to go all-in for a win against West Ham.
Everton also have money to play for
On the other hand, Everton could also earn just over £8 million extra if they beat Spurs and climb three places – from 12th to 9th.
Conversely, they could drop two places depending on other results – and then lose almost £6 million in revenue.
Drama awaits
In other words, it will be both an exciting and potentially very lucrative last day.
The clubs apparently have little to play for – but that’s not entirely true. Leeds manager Daniel Farke could bring in a brand new face in the summer transfer window for an extra £8.5 million.
The only question is whether he will do Tottenham a huge favor along the way.
